Luxury Market in India: A Promising Future Ahead
Luxury Market in India Set to Reach $3.7 Billion by 2026: Industry Experts
The luxury market in India is experiencing a resurgence, with strong growth projected to reach $3.7 billion by 2026, according to a recent industry outlook by global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG). This positive sentiment was reinforced by Benedicte Epinay, president and CEO of Comite Colbert, the official luxury association of France, at a luxury symposium organized by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the national capital.
Epinay highlighted the booming luxury industry in China and the United States, the top two markets globally, but also emphasized the strong demand for luxury goods in India. She praised India for its rich history, craftsmanship, and growing consumer base, making it a promising market for luxury brands.
Despite the challenges, such as regulations and infrastructure, Epinay remains optimistic about the future of the luxury market in India. With the opening of new malls and the increasing interest from Indian consumers, the industry is slowly setting the stage for a robust market.
The rising demand for luxury goods in India has caught the attention of global brands and retailers. Comite Colbert represents 93 luxury brands, including LVMH, Kering, and Hermès, and sees India as a key market for luxury. The association is also actively advocating for intellectual property rights and combating counterfeiting in the industry.
While the ease of doing business in India remains a concern, Abheek Singhi of BCG India believes that the market is evolving in terms of categories, brands, and price points. The demand for a mix of local and global brands is growing, and trust and experience are crucial for Indian consumers.
Luxury brands are also adapting to the changing consumer preferences, with a focus on sustainability, craftsmanship, and local identities. Fashion designers like Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Gaurav Gupta emphasize the importance of creating timeless products and catering to the evolving tastes of Indian consumers.
As the luxury market in India continues to evolve and grow, it presents a unique opportunity for brands to tap into the country’s rich heritage and growing consumer base. With the right strategies and a focus on innovation, the luxury industry in India is poised for a bright future.
